Abstract

Insecticidal compositions comprise 1-fluoro-3 : 4 : 5 : 6 : 7 : 10 : 10 - heptachloro - 4 : 7 - methylene - 4 : 7 : 8 : 9 - tetrahydro phthalane and/or 1 : 3 - difluoro - 4 : 5 : 6 : 7 : 10 : 10 - hexachloro - 4 : 7 - methylene - 4 : 7 : 8 : 9 - tetrahydrophthalane and a diluent or carrier. The diluent may suitably be a solid finely divided material giving wettable or non-wettable dusting agent which may contain emulsifying or adhesive agents. The active compounds may also be used in combination with emulsifiers to give emulsions with water or with water and oils. The compositions may also contain one or more other insecticidal compounds such as pyrethrum, allethrin or piperonyl butoxide. Examples describe (1) a dusting agent in which a mixture of the active compounds is admixed with talc, wetted with high boiling naphtha and a fatty alcohol-ethylene oxide condensate emulsifier; (2) an emulsion containing a mixture of the active compounds and a fatty alcohol-ethylene oxide condensate in xylene and water; (3) a suspension of the halo-phthalane compounds, kaolin and a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monopalmitate in water and (4) a spray of the halophthalane compounds in kerosene.
