Abstract

855,835. Testing alignment of tracks. McCORMICK, W. C. March 4, 1958 [March 13, 1957], No. 6931/58. Class 97(2) An apparatus for testing the alignment of a track comprises means for establishing a reference line along a track rail between a front and rear station, and an intermediate station situated nearer the rear station than the front, for measuring the relationship between the rail and this line. As shown, the rear car 10, the front car 12, and two intermediate cars 14 are connected by rods 16 and can run along the track on wheels. The reference line is a wire 36, the tension of which can be adjusted by a hand wheel 34, and its vertical height can be adjusted by a handle which is not shown. Push rods 50, 60 and 102 bear against the side of the rail head to eliminate lateral play. The intermediate cars are movable along the tracks, and means are provided for recording the relation between the track and the reference line. It may also be possible to move the front car or the front end of the wire to correct the bend in the track, the rail being subsequently moved to the position thus indicated.
