Abstract
855,737. Purifying gases. PANI, P. July 2, 1958 [July 3, 1957; Jan. 4, 1958], No. 21128/58. Class 55 (2). A gas purification tray is provided with an extension forming part of a continuous gas conduit adapted to protrude into the interior of another tray on assembly of a plurality of such trays in superimposed relationship, the general configuration of the extension being that of a truncated cone or pyramid. As shown, the tray may be of circular or polygonal construction having a continuous gas conduit 3 which may be centrally disposed, passing through a column of such trays. The extension 4 of gas conduit 3 preferably tapers inwardly towards the outer opening thereof and may be provided with a lip, ledge or like projection 5 which terminates at a sufficient distance from the inner wall to allow conduit 3 of the tray below to pass therethrough. Preferably each tray has grids 6 supporting a mass of granular purifying material 7. In operation each tray is charged with particulate purifying material 7 to a predetermined depth such that an embankment 9 is produced around conduit 3 within the tray. Thereafter the extension of an adjacent tray is forced into the purifying material around conduit 3 such that lip or ledge 5 consolidates the purifying material confined by the walls of the gas conduit and the extension. Gas to be purified may pass upwards or downwards through a column of trays.
