Apparatus for purifying smoke comprises a casing with an upper part 2 detachable from a lower part 1 and containing lower and upper baffles 7 and 13, a portion of reduced crosssection extending between baffles 5 and 10, a water spray 8 and grid-like electrodes 20. In a modification the electrodes may be in the form of flat spirals.
