Abstract

855,633. Hydraulic lifts. MONARCH ELEVATOR & MACHINE CO. Jan. 14, 1959, No. 1400/59. Class 78 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] A control system for an hydraulic lift comprises a manifold B which extends between a reservoir A and a car-raising ram C, and which contains a pump P, and a non-return valve K arranged to pass fluid towards the ram only; a return line R, R<SP>1</SP> connected to the manifold between valve K and the ram; a by-pass line J3 connected to the manifold between the pump and valve K; and valves O, N and J which control the flow of fluid through lines R, R<SP>1</SP> and J3. In operation, with the car stationary, the back pressure exerted by ram C retains valve K closed, valves O, N and L are closed and valve J is open. Operation of an up-start control in the car or at a landing starts pump P and energizes pilot valve 12 which effects closing of valve J. When the pressure in valve J exceeds that in the ram, valve K opens and the ram is extended to raise the car which, as it nears the selected floor, operates the solenoid of pilot valve 15 which opens valve L. Fluid is then by-passed through valve L and a regulator valve M, the opening of which is determined by the pressure in the manifold, which is proportional to the load in the car, thereby reducing the flow to the ram gradually to a point where valve K closes. When the car reaches the selected floor, pilot valve 12 and pump P are de-energized, and the system returns to its first condition. Operation of a down start control in the car or at a landing energizes pilot valves 18, 19, thereby exhausting the ram through valves O, N and pipes R, R'. As the car approaches the selected floor it de-energizes valve 18 to reduce the rate of flow from the ram, and when at the selected floor it de-energizes valve 19 to stop further movement of the ram. The system is provided with a check valve E which limits the rate of flow from the ram in the event of a fault developing in the system, and a pulsation eliminator F (see Group XXIX), which absorbs pump pulsation shocks. A manually-operable valve 21 permits the rear to be lowered should valves O and N become inoperative. The Specification contains a detailed description of the construction of the valves.
