Abstract
855,038. Making grids; bending cutters, jointing sheet metal; angular bending. ROE & CO. Ltd., A. V. Nov. 21, 1957 [Nov. 29, 1956], No. 36494/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A honeycomb structure is made by securing corrugated metal strips, e.g. steel strips, together by piercing the strips and bending the tabs formed during the piercing. Corrugated strips are held by a bar 14 against the corrugated surface of a block 1. A row of chisel-edged punches 5 on a slide 8 are moved together by a lever 10 to pierce the strips and to form projecting tabs. Hollow dies 3 move with the slide 8 until operation of a detent 12 allows springs 4 to return the dies 3 to bend back the projecting tabs to secure the strips together. The honeycomb structure is supported on the table 16 while further strips are secured.
