Abstract
854,814. Making handles. CLISSOLD Ltd., F., CLISSOLD, J. S., and CLISSOLD, R. B. March 24, 1959 [March 28, 1958], No. 9975/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIII] In a method of making a brush &c. handle comprising spaced members s of iron or steel joined to panels e, d, g, the members are formed from a single strip a or two joined strips and secured to the panels by electric welding under pressure which may be applied only at the welding site, projections b being formed on the members s and/or on the panels to facilitate welding. Projections about <1>/16 inches high and about ¢-¥ inches apart may be formed in the opposite edges of strip a, as by pressing or rolling, before the strip is bent to shape. A lever or foot-operated welding machine may secure the ornamental panels e, d, g on both sides of the members s, forming a hollow handle having a hole i to receive the brush &c. attachment bolt. The panels e may be spot-welded to a channel for the bolt, and panels d may be flat and have an embossed pattern. The edges of the panels may be kinked and the finished handle brass-plated and lacquered.
