Abstract

853,842. Cathode-ray storage tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 21, 1959 [Aug. 25, 1958], No. 28650/59. Class 39(1). In an electron lens assembly for use in a storage system wherein physical deformation of a thermoplastic 13, Fig. 2, is caused by an electron beam and apertured electron lens elements 16, 17 are provided for focusing the beam, the lens elements include a pair of spaced electrodes 34, 35 positioned within the lens field and so formed as to be coincident with an equipotential surface of the field whereby these electrodes may act alternately as a lens assembly and as radio frequency electrodes for heating of the thermoplastic in the stored information fixing process. Field distortion due to the fissile thickness of the electrodes 34, 35 may be minimized by further electrodes 37, 38. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the spaced electrodes comprise an apertured conical lens element 39 associated with an entrance element (not shown), providing an outwardly convex field and the heating electrodes 40, 41 are conically shaped.
