Abstract
853,788. Electro glass furnaces. BRITISH HARTFORD FAIRMONT Ltd. Dec. 10, 1958 [Dec. 11, 1957], No. 38573/57. Class 39(3). [Also in Group XXXV] An apparatus for melting glass and delivering the molten glass comprises a refractory spout 1 of a forehearth having an opening 3 in its base below which is situated an orifice ring 4 supported in a metallic spout casing 2 hinged by a pin 15. A plunger 5 is reciprocated within a tube 6 to expel the molten glass through the orifice ring. A metallic electrode 7 supports the orifice ring by a plate 8. A heating current flows from the electrode 7 through the molten glass to an electrode 25 and is controlled by an automatic electric system (see Group XXXV), so as to maintain the spout temperature constant. For a plurality of orifice rings, the currents to the electrodes 25 are independently controlled and flow to a common electrode 7.
