853,263. Non-contact-making relays. SANGAMO WESTON Ltd. Feb. 14, 1957 [April 19, 1956], No. 5119/57. Class 40 (9). A thermal converter with a linear response of output current to input current over a wide range, comprises a thermo-electric element 3 followed by a linear direct current amplifier 9 and a cathode follower 14, negative feed-back being provided through a second thermoelectric element 11. A measuring-device 15 is included in the output circuit. In the cathode follower circuit, Fig. 2, the anode voltage is stabilized by a diode 21 and the grid voltage of tube 18 is limited by a silicon diode 25 to avoid overloading the element 11. An inductor 28 reduces output ripple which may be a source of error when the input signals are of low frequency. The converter may be used in a computer for converting from an analogue to a digital system.
