Classes 20(4) and 87(1) A partition wall comprises a framework including plates 11, 11A, 11B secured to opposite walls of a room, to the ceiling and floor and further including liners 12, 12A, 12B secured to, opposite sides of said plates, the framework containing a plurality of composition blocks 13A, 13B, 13C, 14A, 14B, 14C joined with their adjacent edges in abutting interlocked relationship, the edges of the blocks adjacent the plates being received between the liners. The panels are secured by nut and bolt jacking devices 16, 17, leaf spring loaded bolts or leaf springs between the blocks and the framework. The blocks may be made of a homogenous material, or may consist of paper sandwiched between outer layers of plaster. The edges of the blocks are contoured to interlock one with another, such contours being either of V-shape, Fig. 4 or N-shape, Fig. 7 or curved section as shown in Fig. 8. In the case of a block consisting of paper sandwiched between layers of plaster, a profiled wooden bead 28, Fig. 9, may be inserted in a slot formed between the plaster layers, the projecting edges 29 of the plaster being sheared off. Channels 23, Fig. 2 or 25, Fig. 5. may be formed in the edges of the blocks to provide wiring conduits within the partition wall. with the face 10 of the panel, the edges of slots being inclined so that by forcing each bolt to a narrow end of a slot where the bolt engages both edges the edges and thus the faces 10 of the shutters are aligned, the facing member 10 is non- metallic e.g. plywood. The flanges may be of angle section bar 14 to which is welded a strip 15 extending laterally beyond the bar 14 so as to protect the edge of the facing member 10, which is attached by bolts 16 to the bar 14 and crossmembers 17 welded to the flanges 12. The panel 18 shown in Fig. 4 is adapted to be swung about bolts in the bottom slots 13 so that concrete can be poured into the shuttering. Stops 27 limit the opening of this panel.
