Abstract

A latch mechanism for a wing, such as a door (20) or window, comprises a primary unit (10) and at least one secondary unit (11, 12), the primary unit (10) and the or each secondary unit (11, 12) each having a latch (12, 14, 15) which is retractable by the operation of a latch operating means (17, 41) of the primary unit (10), an actuating mechanism (50, 51) operable when in a locking condition to prevent the latches (13, 14, 15) being retracted by the latch operating means (17, 41). As shown the actuating mechanism is key operated and functions to extend a dead bolt (26). Action to retract the deadbolt freeing an abutment from the latch operating member (41). <IMAGE>
