Abstract

852,733. Treating water. VIOLET, M. Feb. 15, 1957 [Feb. 17, 1956], No. 5328/57. Class 46. An apparatus for subjecting a material (e.g. water) first to the action of oscillatory magnetic energy, and then to the action of artificial or natural sources of oscillatory electrical energy, comprises a first means for subjecting the material under treatment to the action of an oscillatory magnetic field and a second means for subjecting the material under treatment, after it leaves the first means, to high frequency electrical oscillations, the second means including a fixed condenser having a dielectric composed principally of beeswax, and one or more electrodes which serve to transmit the electrical oscillations to the material under treatment. The electrical oscillations may be natural in origin, taken from an aerial, or of artificial origin, taken from the electrical supply system. The electrodes may consist of a metal or alloy and may be coated with a metalloid such as arsenic or antimony or a non-metal such as carbon or sulphur. It is stated that, by the use of copper electrodes, some of the copper may be dispersed (in colloidal, molecular or ionic form) in water. In the Figure, water is passed through tube 1, chamber 2, tube 7, tube 8 and finally into storage receptacle 10.. The constricted portion 3 of chamber 2 lies between the poles of an electromagnet 6 fed with alternating current from source 18. Copper electrodes 9 and 11, in tube 8 and receptacle 10 respectively, are connected to fixed condenser 12 and to the movable blades 13 of a rotary condenser, the two condensers being arranged in parallel. Condenser 12 has a dielectric consisting of beeswax. The fixed blades 14 of the rotary condenser, and the remaining terminal of the fixed condenser 12 are connected to the live side of the A.C. source 18. The movable blades 13 of the rotary condenser are driven by motor 15. In alternative arrangements, the fixed condenser and the rotary condenser may be connected in series, of the rotary condenser may be replaced by a high frequency generating device, for example one involving a quartz crystal type valve circuit.
