Abstract

852,620. Making bearings. TEK BEARING CO. April 3, 1959, No. 11362/59. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Self-aligning bearings 1, 4 having partspherical bearing surfaces 2, 9 are assembled between dies A, E, at least one of which has a cavity F with a part-spherical surface G for closing the cylindrical end 3 of part 4 around the bearing surface of part 1. The lower part of surface 9 in the housing 4 may be formed by diestamping or machining before the parts are assembled on a spigot D on the die-plate A. In closing the end 3 to complete surface 9, the centre a, Fig. 18, of die-surface G, passes the centre b of ball 2. The closing operation is terminated by contact between the spigot D and die E, or by an adjustable relief-valve on the pump or supply line of the die-press. The members 1, 4 may be formed of sintered iron, and member 1 may be heat-treated and ground. Bearings with different types of housings and having ball-bearings (Fig. 8, not shown) may be assembled. In Fig. 14, both ends of the housing 25 are closed on the ball 27 by the part-spherical surfaces R in the dies P, Q. A spring-pressed spigot S in die P supports the ball and may end the closing operations by contact with an opposing spigot S. The ball 27 may be replaced by roller races'-having a part-spherical outer surface (Fig. 16, not shown).
