Abstract

<PICT:0852560/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/2> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/3> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/4> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/5> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/6> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/7> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/8> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/9> <PICT:0852560/IV (c)/100> <PICT:0852560/IV A method of dyeing areas of textile articles of apparel comprises drawing the article on a support frame having laterally spaced elongated members, urging a coacting member parallel with said spaced elongated members upwardly between the latter from outside to give the articles an inverted U- or V-shape, immersing only the edges of said U- or V-shape into a dye bath and lifting the same whilst maintaining substantially said shape. Preferably the support frame and the article drawn thereon is immersed into the bath in an unsymmetrical position so that the one side of the article will be differently dyed with respect to the other. Apparatus in which the method of the invention may be carried out is characterized by a support frame comprising elongated members coacting with an elongated member projecting or located above the surface of a dye bath parallel with the first mentioned elongated members and movable upwardly between the elongated members so as to engage an intermediate portion of the textile article and hold it out of contact with the dye bath, the frame being adapted to be immersed into the dye bath. As shown, the textile articles may be dyed in a trough 1 in or outside of which a pair of synchronously driven conveyer chains 2, 3 move. Stocking 12 on support frame 11 may be pivotally mounted on chain 2. Rearwardly projecting arm 14 of frame 11 may carry a roller 15 which runs against the underside of a lower guide bar 16 and upper guide bar 1611. Lower guide bar 16 may have an upwardly bent portion at 161 (Fig. 12) permitting the support structure to be lowered into the bath during a suitable period of time when roller 15 moves along portion 161 of the guide bar. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 a bar 21 or 211 outside the stocking drawn on the support structure 11 is provided between chains 2, 3 in a fixed position relative the conveyer and engages the stocking between the shanks of the V- or U-shape so that only relatively small areas of stocking held down by the shanks are permitted to be immersed in the bath. The frame may be constructed from bars or boards and may be either mutually movable (Figs. 4-6 and 9-11) or rigid (Figs. 7 and 8). A foldable frame may comprise two bars 17 or two boards 18 made of wires or formed by plates, the bars or boards being connected to each other by a hinge 19 or 191. An interconnected spring 20 tends to move said foldable parts of the frame from each other. When the stocking is drawn on the frame it will take up a triangular cross-section as shown in Fig. 4 or a flat shape as shown in Fig. 9. When the frame is lowered so as to immerse part of the stocking in the dye bath, bar 21 is moved between bars 17 or boards 18 against the stocking and press the stocking between the members of the frame upwardly as is shown in Figs. 5 and 10. The frame members may be adjustable vertically with respect to the surface of the dye bath.
