Abstract

852,314. Ratchet clutches. FORMSPRAG CO. March 16, 1959, No. 9032/59. Class 80(2). A sprag retainer is formed of sheet metal and comprises side rings A <SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP> for engaging opposite ends of the sprags B and spaced connecting cross bars C extending axially between the outer peripheries of the rings and bent radially inwardly at C<SP>4</SP> to form contact bearings for the side segments B<SP>3</SP>, B<SP>4</SP> of the sprags B, the space between the portions C<SP>4</SP> and the side rings being occupied by the operating springs D. As shown the cross bars C are integral at one end with the ring A<SP>1</SP> and bent over so that their other ends engage the second ring A<SP>2</SP> and are secured thereto by welding. The rings A<SP>1</SP> A<SP>2</SP> may be formed with lightening holes.
