Abstract
852,209. Overhead-travelling cranes. FERRAND, P. April 24, 1958 [April 26, 1957], No. 12999/58. Class 78 (4). The beam 1 (Fig. 1) of a gantry crane has a cylindrical surface of substantially circular or elliptical section and which is substantially continuous except for a slot (see Fig. 3) along its lower portion. As illustrated the beam is supported at one end by a comparatively rigid connection to a leg 8a, 8b (Fig. 1) and at the other end by a comparatively flexible connection to a leg 5, the legs being mounted on carriages 6, 9 running on the rails. The beam 1 may be circular in section or, as illustrated in Fig. 3, may have a framework formed of tubes 16 joined by curved surfaces 17, 18 and reinforced by tubular stays 19 and by internal partitions 20, 21, 22. The cab 12 is supported from rails 15 within the section.
