852,119. Refrigerating; heat pumps. McFARLAN, A. I. June 24, 1957, No. 19799/57. Class 29 In a system having a plurality of compression systems the condensers 10, 16, 22 of which heat one fluid at progressively increasing temperatures and flowing thereover in series and the evaporators 12, 18, 23 of which cool another fluid at progressively decreasing temperatures and flowing thereover in series, the lowest temperature evaporator is in the same compression system as the highest temperature condenser and vice versa. As shown the condensers heat water recirculated to them by a pump 34 through a cooling tower and the evaporators 12, 18, 23 cool an airstream 37 circulated by fan 38. Further evaporators 14, 20. 24 are in parallel with evaporators 12, 18, 23 and cool a second airstream 39. In a modification, the evaporators cool a stream of water supplied through automatic mixing valves to several air coolers. Each compression system has an auxiliary condenser through which water can be circulated to the mixing valves if air heating is needed
