Abstract

The invention comprises linear quinacridone of the formula: <FORM:0851976/IV (c)/1> in the gamma crystal phase and having a surface area of less than 60 square metres per gram, and a process for making it by oxidizing 6 : 13-dihydroquinacridone and treating the product with dimethyl formamide to convert it into the gamma crystal phase. The quinacridone may be subjected to some milling or grinding, and may be converted into rosinated colour lakes containing from 50% to 80% of the quinacridone. The lakes may be combined with a substratum of the calcium salt of hydrogenated rosin. The pigments are brilliant red and may be used in automotive finishes.
