851,884. Preventing corrosion. METAL & PIPELINE ENDURANCE Ltd., and VIVIAN, A. C. March 23, 1959 [May 9, 1958], No. 14996/58. Class 123(1) [Also in Group XXV] A device for preventing corrosion of liquid storage tanks, e.g. a domestic cold water tank 10, comprises a sacrificial anode 16 which is moulded around one end of an electrical conductor 15 which extends, with a close fit, through an aperture 14 in a wooden batten 12 supported between a pair of opposite walls of the tank 10. The conductor 15 carries at its other end a clamp 17 which is connected electrically with an upper tank flange 11. The conductor 15, which is made of copper or copper clad iron wire, frictionally engages the aperture 14 in the batten 12 so that the anode 16, made e.g. of magnesium and having a length of approximately threequarters of the height of the tank, can be adjusted to suspend mid-way between the free surface of the liquid in the tank and the bottom thereof. The anode may be enclosed within a porous bag. An alternative clamp arrangement comprises a strip of metal which is bent to form a split cylinder and has a diametrally arranged nut and bolt to clamp the flange 11 between the two adjacent longitudinal edges of the strip, the conductor 15 being clamped between a notch in one of the longitudinal edges and the flange 11.
