Abstract

Class 116 [Also in Group XXVIII] In a system for dispensing carbonated liquid such as beer from a source of the liquid under pressure a supply pipe 15 terminating at a dispensing tap 10 comprises a length of smooth bored polyethylene tube, a portion 33 of which is narrower than the remainder of the bore so as to provide sufficient resistance to the flow of liquid to prevent undue frothing thereof when dispensed. As shown, the tube 15 is connected by means of a metal collar 16 and a union 17 to the conical end of an externally screw-threaded sleeve 18 integral with the tap body, the latter being secured by a wing-nut 13 to a stand 11. The bore of the tap body has an outwardly tapering portion in a spigot portion 19 of the tap to which is secured, by means of a nut 21 and collar 22, a flexible spout 20 of arcuate form and made of polyethylene. A tapered plug 23 having a hole therethrough for communication with the bore of the tap is fitted in a transverse bore in the tap body and has trunnion ends projecting through the side walls of the tap and connected to a stirrup-like handle 24 for operation of the tap, a spring pressed cupped washer 31 being provided to lock the stirrup in position. A niting disc 25 is provided with quadreantal gaps for engagement by pins in the plug 23. In a modification, the sleeve 18 is screwed into a bored nylon bearing block which is resiliently mounted in a bore in the tap body; a similar bearing block with an integral sigot corresponding to the spigot 19 is mounted in the forward end of the tap body.
