Abstract
851,338. Firearms and ammunition therefor. HILL, J. L. April 9, 1959, No. 12032/59. Classes 9(1) and 119. An automatic, semi - automatic or manually operated gun has a pistoltype hand-grip 12 (Fig. 6) and a fixed cartridge ejector 28, the grip 12 being formed with a passageway 74 open at its upper and lower ends to receive ejected cartridges from the ejector 28 and to discharge them through the outlet at the lower end of the grip. As shown, the receiver 11 is of generally rectangular construction and contains a similarly formed and longitudinally reciprocable bolt block 18 urged forwardly by a spring 21. The bolt 26 provided with a firing pin 29 projects forwardly of the block 18. A groove 27 in the bolt 26 and block 18 accommodates passage of the stationary ejector 28 upon reciprocation of the bolt block. Beneath the bolt is an extractor 30 secured by a screw 31. Supported in the forward end of the receiver and adjacent the cartridge chamber 10b is a cylindrical transfer disc 32 which is similar to that described in Specification 729,236. The disc is provided in its top surface with a trough adapted to receive a single cartridge 33. Spaced above the top of the disc 32 is a sliding loading gate 34 which can be opened to provide access to the disc for insertion of a cartridge. The gate 34 covers a loading aperture 38 shaped to ensure that the cartridge can be inserted only when it is properly positioned for subsequent operation of the disc 32. A cartridge guide 39 serves to direct the cartridges downwardly into the disc 32. In other than single cartridge loading the cartridges 33 are supplied to the transfer disc from an elongated tube-like magazine 43, which with the cartridges therein is furnished apart from the basic gun structure. Fig. 1 shows the gun without the magazine in place and Fig. 6 shows the magazine attached to the gun. The magazine is closed at one end by a sliding closure plate 43b (Fig. 8) having reversely bent flanges 43c which engage out-turned flanges 43d on the ends of the side walls of the magazine. In attaching the magazine to the gun, its rearward end is engaged under a lip 17b on an extension 17a at the end of the receiver and as the magazine is moved downwardly from the broken line position of Fig. 6, the lower edges of the bent flanges 43c are engaged by the upper edges of two side plate members 46 formed with vertical grooves 49. The flanges 43d move into the grooves 49 and the end closure is at the same time disengaged from the magazine. As the magazine reaches its final position, it is locked by a spring-urged latch member 50. Rotation of the disc from the position of Fig. 6 to the position in which the cartridge trough is aligned with the chamber 10b is effected by means of a rod 59 secured to the bolt block 18 and having a lug 59a engaging the disc. Manual cocking of the block 18 can be effected by rearward pressure on a finger extension 67 on a cocking push rod 68. In order to provide clearance for the passage of ejected cartridges the seat 23, which engages a notch 25 in the block 18 when the trigger 24 is pulled, forms the rear portion of a lever 79 pivoted at 80 and urged upwardly by a spring 81, the front portion of the lever comprising a curved offset portion 79a making lapping contact with an arcuate extension 81a carried by a lever 81 pinned at 82 and operated by the trigger 24. So long as the trigger is pulled the gun will fire automatically.
