851,301. Boring earth. HUGHES TOOL CO. Oct. 7, 1957, No. 31331/57. Class 85. The roller cutters 36 of an earth-boring tool 10 are mounted on the steps of a supporting platform 13. The platform comprises a circular plate 24 to which are fixed plates 25, 26, 27, 28. The plate 24 is fixed to a shaft 23 which is fixed to a manifold 12 having ducts 40, 41 for flushing fluid. The roller cutters are each mounted on arms 35 fixed to the plates and comprise types 1, 6 (see Fig 2). The tool is carried by a hollow drill stem 20 through which flushing fluid is supplied, the interior of the stem communicating with the working surface through the manifold 12. The tool may be used for boring smaller holes by removing the plate 27, 28 and fitting a modified manifold.
