[Also in Group XIII] A suspension of granular solids (e.g. ion-exchange resin) in a certain liquid (e.g. water) is fed at 15 into a tank 1 containing a quantity of that liquid, and through which moves an endless conveyer belt 4 disposed at an angle in the tank less than the angle of repose (in the liquid) of the granular material, so that excess grains on the belt are removed near the liquid surface by surface tension and connection effects, and so that the portion of the belt emerging from the tank carries a substantially continuous single layer of grains. The belt angle may be varied by moving roller 7 laterally, the upwardly-spring- urged perforate guiding plate 14 maintaining close contact with the belt. The belt passes over a suction drying roller 9.
