849,349. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. GENEVAY, J. Oct, 14, 1957 [Oct. 16, 1956; Feb. 7, 1957], No. 32084/57. Class 40 (2). A continuously repeating talking machine comprising a magnetic record apparatus and a chronometric circuit - breaker adapted to switch the record apparatus on and off at predetermined times, is characterised in that the repeating means comprises means for releasing automatically the return of the record carrier to its starting position under the action of a signal corresponding to the end of a record section and further means for starting the reproduction under the. action of a signal produced at the start of a record. In the embodiment described, Fig. 1, the record apparatus is a magnetic tape machine having a contact member 4 which during reproduction slides along a scale 5 the total length of which corresponds to the total length of the tape. Adjustable contact members 14, 13 are provided which when making contact with the member 4 produce the signals which cause the return of the record and its further reproduction, respectively. A control box 2 contains switching apparatus (the circuit of which is shown in Fig. 2) whereby upon closing of the contacts 13, 14, reproducing or rewinding is effected by the operation of relays L or R, respectively. The operation of contact 13 or 14 serves to close the circuit of a solenoid 28 or 29, respectively, to move a switch arm 27 to operate relay 22 or 24. In passing from one position to, the other, temporary contact by arm 27 is made with contact 33 to operate relay 23 and apply a brake. The control box 2 also contains the chronometric apparatus whereby the mains supply is switched on or off at desired times indicated by a clock dial 42 thereon. This apparatus comprises a drum rotating one revolution per hour and having a 12-turn helical groove 48 therein with closely spaced perforations 62 into which projecting plugs 63 are inserted at points where it is desired to switch on or off the record apparatus. The plugs serve to operate, a main switch 55 which successively switches on and off each time it is operated.
