Class 36 An insulator consists of two channeled thimbles 1 around which a sliver of fibreglass is wound a number of times to form a loop 2. The sliver comprises a number of untwisted glass fibres and is impregnated with a resin or plastic which is set by heat, with or without pressure, after the loop has been wound. Tension is applied to the loop during the setting process. The loop may be left open (Fig. 2, not shown) or consolidated into a single bundle of parallel strands e.g. by a whipping 4 between the thimbles. The whipping may be of resin impregnated fibreglass or a temporary one of cellophane tape may be used. As shown in Fig. 5 a shield 6 of moulded fibreglass may be added.
