Abstract

848,883. Tubeless tyres. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Dec. 14, 1956 [Dec. 15, 1955], No. 38231/56. Class 144 (2). To prevent wicking of air along the reinforcing cords in the bead regions of a tubeless tyre, the tyre is provided with chafer strips 21, which may be separate from or integral with the air-impervious liner 18 of the tyre, formed of a flexible film of a linear thermoplastic polymeric resin, such as hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate, nylon, or cellulose acetatebutyrate, which extends across the bead faces externally of the ends of the reinforcing plies 12-15 wrapped around the bead cores 19. The chafer strips may be coated with rubber on both faces, that on one face being compatible with the lining 18 if of rubber, and that on the other or outer face being compatible with the sidewall rubber and of a thickness to provide the sealing ribs 25 on the outer side of the bead during moulding of the tyre.
