Abstract
The invention comprises dyes of formula: <FORM:0847181/IV (c)/1> where R is H, or an alkyl, aryl, carboxylic acid ester or alkylene carboxylic acid ester group and R1 is the residue of a benzene or heterocyclic diazo component, R and R1 being free from SO3H or COOH groups. They are made in conventional fashion by coupling appropriate diazo compounds and 1-(tetrahydrothiophene -11- dioxide-[31]) -5- pyrazolones. The diazo components may contain substituents such as alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, CO-alkyl, CO-aryl, O-alkyl, O-aryl, halogen, NO2, CN, CF3, SO2 N <, SO2-alkyl, SO2-aryl, SO2-O-aryl, NH-CO-alkyl, NH-CO-aryl, -CO-NH-alkyl and CO-NH aryl groups. R, when aryl, may contain similar substituents. The products dye acetate rayon and polyamide and polyester fibres. A dispersed dyeing process is used. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes, and their use in dyeing processes, yellow and reddish-yellow shades being obtained on polyester fibres. Illustrative of diazo components used in the examples are aniline and its 2-chloro-4-nitro, -2-chloro-5-trifluoromethyl-, 3- cyano- and 4-carboxyethyl-derivatives, 4-amino -5- methoxy-oxythiol -S- dioxide and 2-amino- and 6-methyl-2-(41-aminophenyl)-benzthiazoles the values corresponding to R being methyl, phenyl, carboxyethyl and methylcarboxyethyl.
