Abstract
Coarse-grained ethylene is prepared by polymerizing ethylene using as catalyst a mixture of (1) a compound formed by reacting, in an inert hydrocarbon, (a) an alkyl aluminium compound with (b) a compound of a metal of one of sub-Group IV, V and VI and (2) an organo-aluminium compound wherein per 1 to 1,8 gram-equivalent of the alkyl of compound 1, (a) there is used one mole of the compound, (b). Specified 1(a) compounds are ethyl-aluminium sesquichloride, ethyl aluminium dichloride, and diethyl-aluminium monochloride while the sesquichloride is specified for (2), and the specified 1(b) is titanium tetrachloride. The first component of the catalyst mixture may be separated before being brought into contact with the second component. Specifications 828,201 and 828,692 are referred to.ALSO:An ethylene polymerization catalyst comprises a mixture of (1) a compound formed by reacting in an inert hydrocarbon (a) an alkyl aluminium compound with (b) a compound of a metal of one of sub-group IV, V or VI, and (2) an organo-aluminium compound wherein per 1 to 1.8 gram equivalent of the alkyl of 1(a) there is used one mol of the compound 1(b). Specified 1(a) compounds are ethyl aluminium sesquichloride, ethyl aluminium dichloride and diethyl aluminium chloride while the sesquichloride is also specified for (2) and the specified 1(b) is titanium tetrachloride. The first component of the catalyst mixture may be separated before being brought into contact with the second component. In the example, the TiCl4-sesquichloride reaction product (1) is stated to have approximately the composition 3TiCl3.2AlCl3. Specifications 828,201 and 828,692 are referred to.
