846,627. Radio navigation. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. July 11, 1958 [July 16, 1957], No. 22374/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 40(7). In a blind landing navigation system the pilot of the aircraft is presented with a television picture of a model of the airport which corresponds to the view of the airport that the pilot would obtain in good visibility. A television camera situated at the ground is moved above the model of the airport in accordance with the movements of the aircraft by means of servo-mechanisms which are controlled by signals derived at least in part from ground based radar equipment. Video signals are transmitted to the aircraft receiver in known manner. A second model airport may have a model aircraft moved above it, in like manner to the camera, so that the position of the plane relative to the airport may be observed readily. The invention may be extended for use with several aircraft.
