Abstract
846,252. Coin-freed vending machines. VENDO CO. March 18, 1959, No. 9329/59. Class 27 A vending machine comprises a series of conveyers 14 and the driven shaft 15 of each conveyer can be selectively coupled by a ratchet clutch to gearing 24 driven by a single motor 32. Upon selection of a desired article by inserting a coin, a solenoid 64 corresponding to each conveyer is energized and a bolt 62 is withdrawn from a notch 40 in a disc 38 secured to a corresponding driving shaft 22 connected to a driven shaft 15 by gears 21, 17. A shoulder 70 on the bolt rotates a shaft 66 to close a switch 72 so that the motor is energized and the withdrawal of the bolt allows a pawl 50 to engage a ratchet wheel 48 on a gear 26 meshing with the gearing 24. A holding dog 56 is also released to swing across the notch and prevent the bolt from dropping back when the solenoid is de-energized. After one rotation of the disc and advancement of the conveyer by one step to allow withdrawal of an article from an open-fronted pocket 16, the bolt drops back into the notch 40 and the pawl 50 and dog 56 are restored to initial position. As the disc nears the end of its rotation, a stud 80 swings a pallet 76 and then engages the lower arcuate edge of the pallet, the spring 84 then ensuring that the disc is moved fully to initial position. If attempt is made to move the disc reversely, the stud 80 engages in a notch 82 in the pallet. Re-engagement of the bolt with the notch switches off the motor.
