Abstract

845,890. Endless conveyers. MAVOR & COULSON Ltd. Dec. 2, 1957 [Dec. 1, 1956], No. 36804/56. Class 78 (1). In an endless scraper conveyer of the kind having a sectional framework, the end section at one or both ends of the conveyer is mounted for longitudinal sliding relatively to the adjacent section and is provided with a pair of hydraulic rams 36 connected between these two sections, the rams 36 being supplied with fluid by a hand pump 31 to move the sections apart and thereby increase the tension in the scraper chains, and a valve 33 being provided for releasing fluid from the rams to reduce the tension in the scraper chains. The end section comprises side walls 16, 17 and a conveying floor 18, these parts telescoping within the corresponding parts 10, 11, 12 of the adjacent section. The side walls 16, 17 of the end section are provided with ribs 25 which are slidable longitudinally on girders 26 secured to the adjacent section and which house the rams 36. The cylinders of rams 36 are secured to the girders 26 and the piston-rods 37 are secured to brackets 43 on the end-section. Upon operation of pump 31, fluid is delivered from a reservoir 30 to the valve 33 which may be adjusted to three positions. In one position, the fluid is passed via pipe 38, and branch-pipes 38a, 38a, to one end of each ram cylinder to cause the endsection to move away from the adjacent section so as to tension the conveyer chains. Displaced fluid from the other ends of the ram cylinders is passed via valve 33 and pipe 34 to reservoir 30. In the second position, the ram cylinders are isolated to maintain the tension in the conveyer chains. In the third position, fluid is allowed to flow back through the pipes 38a, 38a and 38, the valve 33 and pipe 34 to reservoir 30, this operation being facilitated if necessary by operating the pump to supply fluid via pipes 39, 39a, 39a to the other ends of the ram cylinders so that the end section moves towards the adjacent section to reduce the tension in the conveyer chains. A gauge 50 (Fig. 1, not shown) is fitted to the pipe 38 to indicate the tension in the conveyer chains. The end section includes a driving- drum 13 having chain sprockets 14, 15, the drum being driven by either a single motor 23 through gear-box 24, as shown, or alternatively by two motors disposed on opposite sides of the conveyer driving through separate gear-boxes 24, 24a.
