Abstract
845,340. Moulding-machines. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 16, 1958 [March 5, 1958], No. 33088/58. Class 83 (1). A jolt-moulding-machine comprises a weight positioned to rest freely on the sand in the flask during jolting, there being a cavity in the weight which is filled with an incompressible fluid such as water and sealed by a flexible diaphragm which rests on the upper surface of the sand. The water-filled weight-box 69, on which additional weights 71 may be placed, is carried by cables 64, 65, so that it may be vertically reciprocated by a cylinder 61, to be placed on or removed from the upper surface of the sand in the flask. The cables depend from a carriage 50 which is horizontally reciprocable in the head-frame 6 by pistons 57, 58 on rails 54, 55, so that the weight-box may be moved to one side to allow the flask to be filled. A drawframe 23 is supported and vertically-reciprocable beneath the head-frame 6 by piston-rods 24 of cylinders 26, 27. With the draw-frame in its upper position, an empty flask 19 may be moved on to roller tracks 30, 31, carried by the draw-frame, from an adjacent roller-conveyer 21, or a moulded flask may be moved from said tracks on to a conveyer 22. Brackets 48, 49 on the draw-frame support a fill-flask 47 so that downward movement of the draw-frame first lowers the flask on to the pattern-plate 18, and then places the fill-flask 47 on the flask 19, and upward movement of the draw-frame first picks up the fill-flask 47 and then the flask 19. An extension 17 may be placed on the jolt-table 9 depending on the size of the flask being handled.
