Abstract

845,049. Statistical records. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. April 18, 1958 [April 18, I957], No. 12409/58. Class 106 (1). A statistical record has light-coloured spaces on a dark background and recording is effected by blacking-in selected ones of the spaces. In the form of Fig. 1 the record consists of columns of spaces on a dark background, each containing a digit signifying its value and the space containing the appropriate digit is filled in with a pen or pencil so that a photo-electric sensing device does not respond to the space. The signals produced therefore compiise a train, or say, nine regular pulses, with a gap representing the blacked-in tenth position. An absorbent paper may be used, e.g. blotting paper, to help the blacking-in process when ink is used. The digits may be printed in an ink which repels the recording ink to allow the digit to remain visible after blacking-in. The digit may be printed as part of the dark background and provided with a light coloured space along side as shown in Fig. 2. This record may be sensed in the direction of the rows to save accurate alignment. In another form, Fig. 3, the space is disposed across the digit. In a further form the space is itself shaped as the digit and the digit is still legible after blacking-in.
