844,745. Brush gear for dynamo-electric machines. METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. Oct. 11, 1956 [Oct. 26, 1955], No. 30658/55. Class 35. A commutating dynamo-electric machine or other commutating electrical apparatus has for each of its poles two or more axially spaced brush holders 2a ... 2d engaged with a supporting member 7, extending along the commutator 1, by open-ended slots 14 in the member 7, the slot open ends being directed outwardly of the machine and the holders 2 being secured to the member 7 by individual clamping means which are releasable to allow the associated holder to be removed independently of the other holders of that pole by a sliding movement of the holder in the direction of the slot open end. As shown in a turbo-alternator, the brush holders embody channel-shaped metal members 11 having T-shaped ribs 13 engaging the slots 14 which are of complementary shape, and the clamping means comprise plate 17, handles 18 and nuts and bolts 16, 15. A respective electrically insulating plate 10 is riveted to each member 11 and to two side plates 20 which with welded cross plates 22 form boxes housing two brushes 19; pressure is applied to the brushes by spring blade fingers 24, bell-crank lever 25, tension spring 27 and an adjustable anchorage 28, 29, while current is conveyed via pigtail 31, blade and jaw contacts 33, 34, and a bus-bar 35.
