844,717. Sharpening razor blades. PORTELLI, M. July 31, 1958 [May 30, 1958], No. 17290/58. Class 60. A device for sharpening razor blades of the wafer type comprises a box within which is mounted a pair of rollers having contacting working peripheries of ceramic, drive means for the rollers, a feed aperture in the box for introducing therethrough a razor blade and means to support a blade in the aperture with the blade edge located between the rollers. A box 1 contains sharpening rollers 2, 3 geared together by gears 4 and rotated by handle 6. The rollers are made of, or have their working peripheries lined with, glazed or unglazed porcelain ; other ceramic, e.g. steetite, may be used. The roller 2 is fixedly journalled in the box ; the roller 3 is carried by a stirrup 14 adjustable within the box by screws 17. A pad 18 soaked in lubricant and contacting the roller 3 is fitted in a holder 19 attached to the stirrup 14. In the top of the box is a slot 8 through which the blade 9 is introduced. The sides of the box are formed with ledges such as the bottom 8a of the slot at its sides, which may be brought inwards on protuberences, these ledges supporting shoulders 9b or 9c on the blade. The jaws 10, 11 upstanding from the box top form a clamping gap. The jaw 10 is fixed to the box, and the jaw 11 is adjustable by screw-and-slot 13.
