Abstract

844,691. Crutches. NOLAN, M. Oct. 8, 1957 [Oct. 15, 1956], No. 31304/56. Class 81(2). A crutch cushion comprises an envelope, enclosing air above atmospheric pressure, the envelope having means for securing it detachably to the top of a crutch and being formed without a valve. Laminated polyvinyl chloride sheeting is made into a tube 10 by a welded seam 11. The ends 12, 13 of the tube 10 are flattened and welded to seal off a central air space into which air has been pumped. Press stud sockets 14 located in the flattened ends 12, 13 engage pins 16 at each end of a wooden head-piece 15 of a crutch to detachably secure the cushion. The seam 11 is located at one side of or underneath the cushion in use.
