Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0844342/IV(b)/1> in which R represents a phenyl, alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group, and the preparation thereof by reacting 2-oxo-1,2,3,4,6,7,12,12b-octahydro-indolo [[2,3-a]- quinolizine with R-Mg-Halogen or R-metal and hydrolysing the product, and, if desired, hydrogenating the product so as to reduce any multiple bond contained in the group R therein. The products have sedative and hypotensive activity. According to the Provisional Specification, R may represent any aryl group.
