843,651. Planing. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 15, 1958 [Aug. 16, 1957], No. 25929/57. Addition to 800,064. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXXVI] In a printed circuit as described in the parent Specification, which is made by removing predetermined parts of a conductive sheet mounted on an insulating base, a set of planing or shaping tools is employed. Parts of a copper-clad insulating-board 7 are removed by tools carried by arms 4-6, pivoted at 14. Each arm is held clear by springs 8-10, but may be brought into operation when required by an electromagnet acting on plungers 11, 12 or 13. Part of the circuit may be formed in the position shown, after which the board 7 may be rotated through 90 degrees and the operation completed, using a further set of planing or milling tools. The raising or lowering of each tool may be automatically controlled from a pre-arranged programme. The planing tools used may have either a positive or a negative top-rake.
