Abstract
843,344. Gas turbine plant. DOWTY FUEL SYSTEMS Ltd. April 17, 1958 [Jan. 23, 1957], No. 2506/57. Class 110 (3). A fuel supply system comprises a main pump 4, delivery control means 5 and a circulating pump 6 supplying fuel to the inlet connections of the spill nozzles 1 and fed with fuel from both the main pump and the spill connections of the nozzles, the arrangement being such that at lower fuel discharge rates fuel enters the nozzles only through the inlet connections, while at higher fuel discharge rates the fuel enters the nozzles through both the inlet and the spill connections. To prevent fuel flowing to the nozzle along the spill flow line 3 during the starting of the engine a valve 8 is provided in the line 3. The valve comprises a mushroom valve element 14 spring loaded on to its seating 13 and provided with a stem sliding in a bore 15 which is in communication with the outlet of the circulating pump. When the engine has reached its normal operating speed the fuel pressure is sufficient to raise the valve element 14 against the pressure of its spring 16 and hold it open to allow a flow of fuel in either direction along the spill flow pipe. According to the Provisional Specification the valve 8 may be a manually operated valve.
