Abstract
The invention comprises the specific pentacyclic triterpene triols C30H50O3, 1 1/2 H2O, m.p. about 242 DEG ; [a ]20D (chloroform) +99,5 DEG and C33H56O3, 0,5H2O [a ]20D (chloroform) +161 DEG , and a process for the preparation of pentacyclic triterpene triols wherein isomers of glycyrrhetinic acid or their esters are reduced, for example with lithium aluminium hydride, or the said esters are reacted with organometallic compounds, for example a Grignard reagent, followed by hydrolysis. Specifications 798,655, 799,415, 843,132, 843,133, 843,134 and 843,135 are referred to.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions comprise as active ingredient one or more pentacyclic triterpene triols preparable by the reduction of the isomeric forms of glycyrrhetinic acid, optionally in admixture with other derivatives of glycyrrhetinic acid and/or in admixture with an anticausative substance and/or in admixture with an anti-inflammatory agent, and a pharmaceutical carrier suitable for topical or systemic application. Preparations include suppositories, pessaries, colonic corres and injections, tablets, mixtures, lotions, douches, ointments, solutions, injections, emulsions, suspensions, pastes, cones, cerates, paints and powders.
