Abstract

841,574. Cutting-out presses. SCHROTER, F. Sept. 17, 1956 [Oct. 10, 1955; July 6, 1956], No. 28398/56. Class 31 (1). [Also in Group XVI] In a machine for processing, e.g. cutting, embossing, or printing paper or like sheets wherein devices are provided for affecting the relative positions of the sheets and the tools, the devices comprise control means which effect both stepwise adjustments of the devices through constant single distances of a predetermined minimum value and also multiple distance adjustments, the control means being associated with counters which indicate the number of adjustments made, these counters being mounted at different points on the machine, e.g. at the sheet feeding side, delivery side, and at intermediate points. In addition, indicators comprising pointers moving over scales are provided to indicate single and total adjustment of the devices. Platen adjustments.-In the embossing printing or stamping machine shown in Fig. 1, the stationary platen 4 can be adjusted toward or away from the reciprocating tool or forme carrier 2 whilst the machine is operating by moving a pair of supporting wedges 6 longitudinally by means of a screw 7. The screw 7 engages a thread in the bore of a worm-wheel 9 in engagement with a worm 10 connected to a motor 11 through a slipping clutch 12. The worm 10 has driving connection with a shaft 13 which is geared at 14 to a scale drum 15 co-operating with a scale 16, so that the setting or adjustment of the platen 4 is indicated. A cam 138 on the shaft 13 co-operates with a switch 27 which automatically interrupts the current supply after a single revolution of the shaft. A single revolution of the shaft 13 to raise or lower the platen 4 by a predetermined amount is effected on the depression of one of the switches 18, 19. Several electricallyoperated counters 20 are arranged at convenient places on the machine to show, in addition to the scale 15, 16 the setting of the platen 4. Terminal switches 21, 25 operated by abutments 24, 22, respectively, prevent overdriving of the wedges 6 in both directions. The electric circuit and the switches are so arranged that if a switch 18 or 19 is depressed and the motor 11 cannot immediately raise or lower the platen 4 due to pressure between the two platens 2, 4 during the operation on a sheet (thus causing the clutch 12 to slip), the platen 4 will be adjusted subsequently. The counters 20 do not operate until the actual adjustment of the platen 4 is made. The circuit includes two relays 143, 144 associated, respectively, with magnet coils 160, 157; the relay 143 actuates a three-pole main switch 159 and an auxiliary switch 158, and the relay 144 similarly actuates main and auxiliary switches 156, 155. The switch 27 is associated with an auxiliary relay 146. Sheet-registration.-Sheets are registered on a table 28, Fig. 2, of the sheet-processing machine by front and side register stops 29, 30 which are each adjustable in predetermined steps by a screw-spindle 48 pulled or pushed through gearing 33 driven by a motor 31. The arrangement of each device is similar to that described above for moving the platen 4: the gears 34 control the adjustments of the stops 29, 30 in graduated steps through cams 38, and switches 37, and the gears 35 rotate a scale 36, and operate cut-outs 39 through cams 40 at the limits of travel of the stops 29, 30. In each case, a register stop is moved in one direction or the other according to which switch 41 or 45 is closed manually, the setting being shown on the scale 36, and also on one or more counters 49 operated electrically on completion of each adjustment of the stop. One depression on switch 41 or 45 effects one increment of movement to the stops 29 or 30, and continuous pressure on one switch effects adjustment over any desired distance.
