Abstract

841,478. Fluid actuation of switches. TRICO-FOLBERTH Ltd. Nov. 14, 1956 [Nov. 14, 1955], No. 32514/55. Class 38 (5). A switch for controlling vehicle flashing light direction indicators comprises contacts operated by a pneumatic motor. The fixed contacts 4a, 5a are adapted to be bridged by a contact 3 resiliently mounted on a piston 2 which is connected at 7 to a toggle lever 8 pivoted to the base at 9. The second lever 10 of the toggle is also pivoted at 9 and is connected at 11 to a valve mechanism, the points 7, 11 being joined by a tension spring 14. When the piston moves into its right-hand position the valves are positioned so that pressure air is applied via entry 18, channel 19, chamber 20 and passage 22 to the righthand face of the piston which thus moves to the left to open the contacts. Near the end of this movement, the toggle snaps over and restores the valves, so that air flows as shown by the arrows to return the piston. The moving contact may be carried on the toggle so as to move with a snap action or the contacts may be outside the case. A solenoid 16, which is energized at the same time as a lamp is selected, has a plunger 15 which when the device is inoperatve holds the lever 10 in its left-hand position so that the piston is held to the right, the device being started by energizing the solenoid to withdraw the plunger. The piston may be operated by suction at the normal venting aperture 23, and may be replaced by a vane.
