Abstract
841,007. Metal-working presses. HAUTAU, C. F. March 24, 1958, No. 9395/58. Class 83(4). A heavy duty metal-working multiple-station press has a central vertical load-carrying column 32 extending between a bolster 10 and head 36, an annular ram 70 reciprocable vertically on the column by a driving mechanism 56 mounted in the head, sets of dies 96 carried by the ram and bolster and means 120 for automatically transferring workpieces between the dies. The bolster 10 is housed in a pit in the workshop floor 12 and carries a slotted track 16 on which are mounted lower die blocks 24 for the lower dies 96. The ram 70 is actuated by an electric motor 42 through belt 46, gears 50, 52, 54, cranks 56 and connecting-rods 58. The latter are coupled by pins 62 to bearing-blocks 64 located by nuts 68 on the ram. For adjusting the stroke position of the ram these nuts 68 have external worm teeth meshing with worm shafts 82 which are adjusted through gearing 80 by an electric motor 74 mounted on the ram. An annular die housing 86 bolted to the ram carries upper die blocks 90 for the upper dies 96. All of the dies 96 are supported on hydraulic die cushions 94 accessible through openings 28, 92 in the bolster and die housings respectively. The workpiece transfer mechanism comprises a set of workpiece clamps 120 which are opened and closed individually by air motors 122 and are carried by a ring 118 mounted for semi-rotation on the column 32 by means of an air motor 128 and for vertical movement on the column by means of a fluid-pressure motor 100, 102, housed in the bolster 10. After the ring 118 has been lowered to deposit the workpieces in their dies and the clamps 120 have been released by their air motors 122, the clamps are pivotally moved into vertical positions away from the dies by individual air motors 124. The press may perform successive operations on a single workpiece, or a plurality of different operations on different workpieces or the dies 96 may be identical for performing the same operation simultaneously on a number of workpieces.
