Abstract
839,435. Rollers. OFU OFENBAU-UNION G.m.b.H. Feb. 6, 1957 [Feb. 8, 1956; Jan. 21, 1957], No. 4116/57. Class. 42 (2). [Also in Group XII] In a roller hearth furnace each roller is supported solely at one side of the furnace. Each roller mounting comprises a cylindrical member 15 having a flange 151 and roller cooling fan blades 152 and carrying a spindle 153 adapted for mounting in a double bearing 120, 121. The spindle has a step; member 18 and an axially, adjustable flange 154 and in assembly a spring 19 to urge the member 15 inwards, is disposed. between the bearing, 120 and the flange 154. The roller, which is hollow, of iron, and preferably cast centrifugally in an inclined mould, is welded at 114 to the member 15,the method of casting ensuring a reinforced wall 112 at, the region where maximum bending, stress occurs. Between the flange 151 and the furnace wall 10 are located co operating, annular members 16,.. 17 of amorphous carbon the contact surfaces being spheroidal to ensure gas-tightness between atmosphere andfurnaceinterior even should the roller tilt. Instead of the thickened.. wall 112 the roller may have. inserted therein an. annular reinforcing lining 20.
