Abstract

Organic compounds of tin, lead, arsenic, antimony and bismuth are made by reacting a halogen compound of the appropriate element with an aluminium alkyl compound. The aluminium alkyl may be of the formula AlR3, AlR2X, AlRX2 or Al2R3X3, wherein R is a saturated radical and X is a halogen of atomic weight at least 35. Reaction is preferably conducted in the presence of an inert solvent, e.g. methylene chloride, benzine fractions, heptane, cyclohexane, or an aromatic hydrocarbon such as benzene, toluene or xylene. The desired product may be isolated by decomposing the aluminium compounds with water and separating the organic phase. Specification 768,765 is referred to.
