Abstract
Alkyl and aryl esters of isocyanic acid and bis-isocyanates of the type OCN-R1-NCO, where R1 is an alkylene or arylene residue are obtained by heating alkyl or aryl mono-substituted ureas and bis-ureas H2NCONH-R1-NHCONH2 (where R1 is an alkylene or arylene residue) respectively, with a source of boron trifluoride. The reaction may be conducted in presence or absence of solvents, and inert gases, and the source of boron trifluoride may include complexes thereof with ammonia, ethers or the urea reactants, and also ammonium fluoborate.
