839,145. Batteries. TUDOR A.B. Dec. 2, 1957 [Dec. 10, 1956], No. 37534/57. Class 53. An electrode consisting of a number of tubes is provided with a bottom bar of insulating material which encloses the lower ends of the tubes and the lower parts of the active material therein. Fig. 3 shows an end-on view of a number of tubes having a bottom bar 7 of polyvinyl chloride, for example, which is covered by a strip 8 which is welded to the tubes 3. The strip 8 may be made of the same material as the tubes 3, and the bar 7 may be of the same width as the tubes. Fig. 9 shows a modification in which the bar 9 is shaped to fit the tubes to which it is welded or cemented. The rods 1 may or need not extend to the bar 9. The insides of the tubes may be covered with woven glass wool. Specification 697,198 is referred to.
