Abstract
837,125. Extruding. LOEWY ENGINEER. ING CO. Ltd. Oct. 6, 1958 [July 9, 1957], No. 21675/57. Class 83 (4). An hydraulic metal extrusion press has the speed of its pressing stem 3 controlled by a valve 6 operated by a cam 16 moving with the press ram 2. The valve 6 is preferably the main valve controlling the supply of fluid to the ram 2 or alternatively to return rams. Linked valve elements 9, 10 for the supply and exhaust of fluid respectively are controlled by a rod 19 carrying a roller follower 18 co-operating with an axial cam 16 carried by the ram 2. The cam may actuate the valve directly or through a servo valve 20 and relay. The valve elements are also actuated manually by a handle 15. Cam 16 is adjustable by the operator and may be flexible or it consists of juxtaposed discs 160 which may be exchanged independently for varying the cam contour. The cam is rendered inoperative during the return stroke; it may alternatively be a rotary cam.
