Abstract

L-Glutamine is prepared by autoclaving aqueous L-glutamic acid, separating the Lpyrrolidone carboxylic acid thus formed, refluxing the latter with hydrazine in presence of a volatile organic solvent to give g -L-glutamyl hydrazide, and shaking the hydrazide with sponge nickel in water, treating the product with ammonia, passing it through a carboxylic acid ion-exchange resin to remove the nickelammonia complex and separating L-glutamine from the resulting aqueous solution.
